Charissa Thompson is calling out the so called pundits.
The Thursday Night Football host is uninterested in the ongoing criticisms surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs following their Super Bowl LVIII victory over the San Francisco 49ers, particularly those related to Taylor Swift.
During the latest episode of Calm Down with Erin and Charissa, Thompson expressed her admiration for the Chiefs’ ability to maintain authenticity and have fun while still achieving success, despite the constant complaints about their supposed distractions.
Thompson emphasized that pundits often criticize the Chiefs for not adhering to their traditional image or for being too distracted by external factors like Swift’s presence. However, she applauded the team for proving that they can stay true to themselves, enjoy the moment, and still emerge victorious.
She noted examples such as Travis Kelce’s lighthearted antics and Swift’s appearance on the Jumbotron, highlighting the importance of authenticity in achieving success.
“There’s all these pundits and like for Travis (Kelce) and for the Chiefs and whatnot, it’s like ‘Oh, they’re not the same Chiefs of old’ and ‘This is a distraction’ and ‘Enough about Taylor.’ It’s got to be such a great (flips the bird) like you can still be at the height of your career, have fun, be authentically you, Travis up there saying Viva Las Vegas or any of his cute little things, and he can still win. You don’t have to be this certain way or you can be her and chugging a beer or wine or whatever she was (doing) on the Jumbotron. It’s like, authenticity is something that resonates with me. So when people are authentic with themselves and they have success, good for you,” Thompson said.

The Chiefs faced backlash, especially after Swift began attending their games, with many writing them off entirely after a loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 1. Despite the initial doubts, the Chiefs remained resilient, ultimately clinching their third Super Bowl victory in five years and their second consecutive title, a remarkable achievement not seen in two decades.
