There are strong indications that Jim Harbaugh is poised to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that the Chargers are in “striking distance” of finalizing a deal with Harbaugh, and the two parties are holding discussions in Los Angeles. Despite the Chargers’ past reputation for being frugal in coaching hires, Garafolo notes that they have presented an “extremely strong offer” to Harbaugh. The discussions are progressing to the point where staffing matters, including the general manager and coaching staff alongside Harbaugh, are being considered.
“My understanding is an extremely strong offer was made to him, financially. They’re now at the point where they can discuss staffing when it comes to general manager and the coaching staff alongside Harbaugh,” Garafolo said. “This feels like it’s advancing to the point where, if everyone is comfortable with a lot of the factors at play, this team could try to get him under contract in the near future.”

The potential deal could be finalized soon if all parties are comfortable with the various factors involved.
Harbaugh has been a top choice for the Chargers throughout their coaching search, with ownership likely viewing him as the coach to revitalize the franchise. Harbaugh previously led the San Francisco 49ers to the NFC Championship three times in a four-year span.
