Rookie minicamps have kicked off this week across the NFL, and Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh’s excitement was palpable.
The Chargers made a significant addition in the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting Notre Dame offensive lineman Joe Alt in the first round.
Alt, a formidable tackle, showcased his skills during the initial workouts.

At Harbaugh’s press conference on Friday, the first question was naturally about his observations of the Chargers’ offensive line so far. However, Harbaugh’s response took an unexpectedly philosophical turn, reminiscent of a Mark Wahlberg motivational script.
“3:34 in the morning, woke up,” Harbaugh recounted. “Stared straight into the ceiling and said to myself, ‘It’s not just another day — it’s today.’ Maybe that’s just another way of saying attack this day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. But yeah, it was a great day.”
Harbaugh’s response, which veered completely off the original question about the offensive line, underscored his intense passion for football, almost making him sound like the quintessential football coach.
Despite the detour in his answer, Harbaugh’s enthusiasm was genuine. He had previously praised the decision to draft Alt last month, and his excitement to begin another day of coaching football was evident in his spirited morning declaration.
