After an impressive summer that saw Derrick White add an NBA title and an Olympic gold medal to his resume, the Boston Celtics guard found himself in a much less celebrated moment over the weekend. White, who had been enjoying his offseason success, was caught in a tense and heated situation while attending a college football game in Colorado.
On Monday, TMZ Sports released footage of an altercation involving White during the Colorado Buffaloes’ road game against rival Colorado State in Fort Collins. White, an alumnus of the University of Colorado, had returned to support his alma mater. In the video, White is seen in the stands near the goalposts, engaging in a verbal confrontation with another fan. Things escalated when the man aggressively swung at White, making contact with his head and knocking off his cap. Bystanders and security quickly intervened to subdue the man, while White backed away from the situation. Although clearly upset, he was restrained by others as he pointed and shouted at his attacker.
According to TMZ, the incident started as a verbal exchange between White and some Colorado State fans when Colorado began taking control of the game during the second quarter.
The tensions culminated in the third quarter, by which time Colorado had secured a comfortable lead. White’s Buffaloes would go on to win the game with a 28-9 victory, but the focus shifted to the altercation in the stands.

Despite the scuffle, no police report was filed, and law enforcement arrived on the scene to defuse the situation. White was eventually seen leaving the area via a nearby staircase without further incident.
At 30, White has built a reputation as one of the NBA’s top defensive players, earning two All-Defensive team selections and playing a crucial role in the Celtics’ championship run this year.
However, this time, White made headlines for an entirely different reason, as footage of him getting hit at the football game spread across social media.
While his summer accolades may have been filled with glory, this particular moment was a reminder that not all attention is welcome.
