CeeDee Lamb made a grand entrance at “Cowboys Night” in Frisco, Texas, on Tuesday, fresh off signing a significant four-year contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys. The deal solidifies Lamb’s place as a cornerstone of the Cowboys’ future. However, the future of his quarterback, Dak Prescott, remains uncertain.
As Prescott heads into the 2024 NFL season, he does so in the final year of his contract. With no extension in place as of August 27, the 31-year-old quarterback is on track to hit free agency next offseason, leaving fans and analysts speculating about his future with the team.
Lamb, who has caught passes from Prescott throughout his entire four-year NFL career, voiced his unwavering support for his quarterback and expressed confidence that a new deal will be reached. “I have no doubt that they will get the deal done,” Lamb said on Tuesday, as reported by Cowboys insider Nick Harris. “I know that I want Dak here. Jerry [Jones] wants Dak here, too. Let’s just get this under control, kill the speculations.”

Prescott has made it clear that he wants to remain with the Cowboys for the long haul. However, he also acknowledged in July that many legendary quarterbacks he admired growing up eventually played for different teams during their careers, leaving the door open for a potential departure if an agreement isn’t reached.
As the Cowboys’ season opener against the Cleveland Browns on September 8 approaches, the pressure is mounting for Prescott and the Cowboys’ front office to negotiate a new deal. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones provided an update on August 21, saying, “We’re just continuing to talk. Since we’re [approaching] in-season, we’re operating under the existing contract.”
While Lamb’s new deal brings stability to one of the Cowboys’ key offensive positions, the looming uncertainty around Prescott’s contract situation continues to cast a shadow over the team’s preparations for the upcoming season.
As both sides work to reach an agreement, the future of the Cowboys’ franchise quarterback remains one of the biggest storylines heading into the 2024 season.
