Just as she thought her days on the court were over, basketball reeled Hanna Cavinder back in.
On Wednesday, Hanna announced her decision to return to the University of Miami for another season, after a year-long hiatus from the sport.
“Last season was both the most successful and challenging year of my life, and it has helped me grow immensely,” she shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Recently, I’ve been yearning to return to the game I thought I had lost passion for. With that in mind, I am excited to announce my return for one more season.”

Her twin sister, Haley, who also stepped away from basketball, had previously declared in November her commitment to play the 2024-25 season at TCU. Given the dynamics of the NIL and transfer portal era, it wouldn’t be surprising if a reunion at Miami is on the cards for the Cavinder sisters.
The twins started their collegiate basketball careers at Fresno State, later transferring to Miami for the 2022-23 season, where they played a crucial role in the Hurricanes’ unexpected journey to the Elite Eight in the 2023 March Madness, including an upset victory over the top-seeded Indiana.
Beyond the court, the Cavinder twins have become significant figures in social media and NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness), reportedly earning $2 million from NIL deals as of last June. They’ve even hinted at a potential future in WWE, sharing social media posts about becoming the next great tag team.
When Haley decided to return to basketball with TCU, she described her commitment as “the last rodeo” on Instagram. Both twins have utilized their fifth year of eligibility, granted due to COVID-19 regulations, to extend their collegiate athletic careers.
