The Chicago Bears are the stars of the latest season of “Hard Knocks,” and the first episode introduced viewers to a number of new players, including undrafted rookie offensive lineman Theo Benedet.
Born in Toronto, Benedet made a name for himself at the University of British Columbia, where he was one of the top linemen in the country, attracting interest from multiple NFL teams.
After going undrafted, Benedet signed with the Bears and quickly started making an impression—not just on the field, but also off it, thanks to a standout performance at the team’s rookie talent show.
If you’ve managed to avoid spoilers from the headline and featured image, prepare for a surprise.
“To thank you all for welcoming me to your country, I have prepared this number,” Benedet announced, before launching into a rather awkward rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” in front of a bemused and somewhat uneasy roomful of teammates.

What began as a cringeworthy performance quickly turned entertaining as Benedet incorporated tiny cymbals into his act.
The highlight came when he ripped off his pants, revealing nothing but tiny underwear adorned with the face of a bald eagle, which left the room in stitches and made him an instant fan favorite.
Unfortunately, despite his memorable off-field antics, Benedet’s on-field future took a hit when he was injured in the Hall of Fame game. By the time the episode aired, it was evident that he would likely miss the rest of the preseason, putting his chances of making the Bears’ roster in jeopardy.
Benedet’s story is a reminder of the unpredictable and often challenging path that undrafted rookies face in their quest to make it in the NFL, blending moments of humor with the harsh realities of the sport.
