Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink has quickly made a name for herself, not just on the court but also through her interactions with New Balance co-endorser, NBA star Kawhi Leonard.
Despite their differences in age and demeanor, the two athletes have struck up an unlikely friendship, highlighted by Brink’s spot-on impression of Leonard.
During an appearance on “Podcast P” with Paul George, Brink recounted their first meeting at a commercial shoot for New Balance. As the first female basketball player to sign with the brand, Brink felt warmly welcomed by her NBA counterparts, particularly Leonard, who is often perceived by the public as reserved and enigmatic.
Paul George, who has played over 200 games alongside Leonard, echoed Brink’s sentiments, noting that there’s a side to Leonard that the public rarely sees. Brink and George shared that, contrary to his quiet public persona, Leonard is unexpectedly humorous.

“He is funny as s—! He is funny!” Brink exclaimed during the podcast. She revealed that her interactions with Leonard during the shoot had everyone, including New Balance’s head marketing director, in stitches. “All the New Balance guys, our head marketing guy, was like, ‘we haven’t seen anybody make him laugh more than you.’ So I was like, ‘give me my flowers!’”
Brink humorously noted that while she couldn’t recall what exactly sparked Leonard’s laughter, his distinctive laugh made a memorable impression, a laugh that has become famously recognizable to NBA fans worldwide.
She even joked that Leonard was the “male version of Aubrey Plaza,” a comment that, while lost on George and others at the podcast, underscored the quirky and unexpected humor she attributes to Leonard.
This anecdote from Brink highlights not only the camaraderie shared among New Balance athletes but also peels back a layer of Leonard’s private persona, revealing a lighter, more humorous side that contrasts sharply with his public image.
