Diana Taurasi hasn’t been shy about sharing often unpopular opinions about Caitlin Clark, but she also has her own team to focus on.
The Phoenix Mercury had a challenging 2023 season, marked by the return of Brittany Griner from Russia. Hoping for a stronger start in 2024, the team has encountered similar issues. Their season opener was a tough matchup against the Las Vegas Aces on the road during the Aces’ ring ceremony night.
The Aces started strong with a 21-3 run, leading 29-11 late in the first quarter. However, the Mercury fought back, closing the gap to just one point at halftime. Despite their efforts, the Aces gradually pulled away, securing the win.
After the game, Taurasi was visibly frustrated, seen slamming a door as she headed to the locker room.

Taurasi had an impressive performance, scoring 23 points in 28 minutes, shooting 8 of 14 from the field and 7 of 11 from three-point range. She also contributed three rebounds, according to ESPN.com.
Earlier this year, Taurasi commented that Caitlin Clark’s “reality is coming” upon joining the WNBA, sparking backlash on social media.
Tuesday night marked Clark’s much-anticipated WNBA regular-season debut, but it didn’t go as many had hoped. Clark struggled at times, scoring 20 points but committing 10 turnovers in the Indiana Fever’s 92-71 loss to the Connecticut Sun.
