A statement released by one of the youth organizations involved in Sunday’s viral altercation involving Cam Newton has squarely placed the blame on the former NFL quarterback.
TopShelf Performance, an Atlanta-based training facility with teams participating in the event, issued an apology for their role in the incident, attributing responsibility to Newton for instigating it.
According to the statement, several coaches from TopShelf had previously collaborated with Newton through his C1N foundation. However, Newton allegedly struggled to accept defeat when their teams prevailed in the past.

The statement asserts that Newton repeatedly taunted TopShelf’s players, leading one of the coaches to confront him. Allegedly, Newton attempted to choke the coach, prompting another coach to intervene, resulting in a physical altercation. Reportedly, police present at the scene corroborated that Newton initiated the confrontation.
Although video footage of the incident circulated widely, appearing to show Newton defending himself, neither Newton nor his representatives have publicly addressed the event.
Having last played in the NFL in 2021, Newton has maintained a presence in the media with his outspoken opinions, particularly regarding current quarterbacks, showcasing his trademark confidence.
