Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is feeling optimistic about his team’s offensive prospects.
Following the Bears’ draft selection of Tory Taylor, a standout punter from the Iowa Hawkeyes, Williams reached out to the special-teams ace with a confident message.
“Hey, you’re not going to punt too much here,” Williams texted him.

For Taylor, who averaged an impressive 48.2 yards per punt last season and led the nation with 93 punt attempts and 4,479 total punt yards, this could signal a significant change. Known humorously as Iowa’s most effective weapon due to its underperforming offense—the lowest in college football in 2023 with just 235.4 yards per game—Taylor’s skills were frequently in demand.
The Bears secured Taylor with their fourth-round pick, No. 122 overall, marking the highest a punter has been drafted since Mitch Wishnowsky was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with pick No. 110 in 2019.
With Williams at the helm and the additions of veteran receiver Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze, a promising wideout from the University of Washington chosen with the ninth pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Bears are poised for a more dynamic offense.
This new lineup suggests Taylor may indeed find his punting duties lighter than usual in his upcoming season with Chicago.
