Tom Brady’s unparalleled longevity and late-career success seemed to solidify his status as the football GOAT (Greatest of All Time) in the eyes of many NFL observers. However, there are those who believe that Patrick Mahomes could one day challenge for that title.
When asked to name his football GOAT at the NFL Scouting Combine by CBS Sports, Caleb Williams, the presumptive No. 1 pick, initially acknowledged Brady’s credentials before expressing his personal preference for Aaron Rodgers.
“In terms of football, winning, and mentality, Tom Brady,” Williams said. “But my football GOAT is Aaron Rodgers.”
It appeared that Williams was simply offering his own favorite player rather than making a definitive statement about Rodgers being the best football player ever.

In another interview at Lucas Oil Stadium, Williams reiterated his admiration for Rodgers over Brady, stating, “I try to model my game after a bunch of guys, but Aaron Rodgers, I would say is number one.”
While Brady holds the records for passing yards (89,214) and touchdowns (649) over his 23-year career, Rodgers boasts superior efficiency metrics, including a higher touchdown rate, lower interception percentage, more yards per attempt, and a superior quarterback rating.
However, Brady’s seven Super Bowl titles compared to Rodgers’ one is often cited as a key differentiator by many fans.
Although Williams is often compared to Mahomes, his playing style, characterized by pocket mobility and improvisational skills, aligns more closely with Rodgers than Brady. The 22-year-old quarterback prospect would undoubtedly be thrilled to achieve a fraction of the success enjoyed by either future Hall of Famer.
Interestingly, Williams could potentially begin his NFL career with the same organization that his GOAT, Rodgers, once claimed to own. The Chicago Bears hold the first pick in this year’s draft, scheduled to begin on April 25.
