Caleb Williams, widely anticipated to be the top pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft, has faced intense scrutiny over both his athletic skills and personal choices, including his habit of painting his nails.
Williams explained the significance of this pastime in a relaxed setting. “It’s one thing where you go to a nail salon, and it’s peaceful,” he said. “I just sit down, throw on my [headphones], turn on a movie, and I’m chillin’, not bothered by anything other than what I decide to be bothered by.”
The former Heisman trophy winner expressed that this activity helps him feel comfortable with himself. “And then, I’m comfortable in my own skin. I know who and what I am and who I like and what I like and how I go about that,” he added.
Caleb also spoke about his nails he’ll sport during the NFL Draft via Outkick:
First off, Williams wants you to know, the nails will be painted to match his suit. And his girlfriend’s dress.
“I’m wearing a navy suit. Bright navy blue with some silver accents, so it’s going to look nice,” Williams says. “And the silver pinkie is to match my lady’s dress.”

When someone asked if he’ll wear spiked shoes:
“No, no, no,” Williams says almost incredulously. “I’m not wearing no spike shoes. I’m wearing black boots.” Pause.
“Black boots,” he repeats as if to make sure there are no misunderstandings.
Williams reflected on his self-awareness and self-acceptance, saying, “When I look into the mirror, I know who I am. And so that’s the simplest answer I can give you for that. That’s kind of how I go about it.”
Despite facing criticism for things as trivial as his nail color or having a pink phone case, Williams has remained unaffected. His ability to disregard external judgments about his personal choices demonstrates a strong sense of self, which is a promising trait as he prepares to embark on his NFL career.
Williams’ approach to handling public perception and personal criticism will undoubtedly serve him well as he steps into the professional spotlight this week.
