Everyone has an opinion on Caitlin Clark.
Caitlin Clark, freshly drafted as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, is reportedly about to sign an eight-year, $28 million endorsement deal with Nike. However, questions are being raised about whether the Iowa Hawkeyes standout secured the best possible deal with The Swoosh.
Sonny Vacarro, the legendary Nike executive known for signing Michael Jordan, voiced concerns that Clark’s representation might not have maximized the terms of the agreement.

“She should have gotten a piece of everything, just like Michael Jordan,” Vacarro said, via TMZ. “I’m saying to you, they messed up. They should have held on to the last drop.”
While the full details of Clark’s contract with Nike aren’t publicly known, and it may include bonus incentives and other favorable terms, it’s suggested that the arrangement doesn’t reach the iconic ‘Michael Jordan deal’ level.
Despite the critique, the deal is still a significant achievement for Clark, especially when compared to the next best offer she received—$16 million over four years from Under Armour. Considering Clark’s WNBA salary will be under $100,000, the Nike deal is a substantial boost as she begins her professional career.
The 2024 WNBA regular season is just around the corner, starting next month.
