Earlier this week, the basketball community discovered that Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston had deactivated her social media accounts after facing intense scrutiny and criticism.
ESPN’s Holly Rowe shared insights from her conversation with Boston, revealing, “I spoke with Aliyah Boston and she said:
‘I had to delete Twitter from my phone.’
She mentioned that the only safe app right now is TikTok, where it’s friendly and she can easily scroll past negative comments.”

In a recent development, Boston and her teammates celebrated their first victory of the season, defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 78-73.
After the game, Boston opened up about her decision to step back from social media, citing the need to safeguard her mental well-being:
“I logged off of social media because I have to protect my peace,” she explained. Boston elaborated on the pressure from “couch coaches” and critics who’ve never played yet freely offer advice on how she should play basketball. Disconnecting has allowed her to focus more on her spiritual life, which she finds enriching. “It’s been better for me. I’ve been able to talk to God a lot, and I’ve been in my Bible a lot more, and it’s been a blessing because I know He’s the reason for everything,” she said.
Given that the Fever are a young team, expectations of playoff success may be premature.
Fans might do well to recognize this and give the players the space they need to grow and enjoy the game.
