The Indiana Fever’s 2024 WNBA playoff run came to an early end, as they were eliminated in two games by the Connecticut Sun during the first round. Despite the disappointing finish, rookie star Caitlin Clark took time to reflect on her first season and the progress the Fever made throughout the year.
Though they failed to advance in the postseason, Clark expressed optimism about the future of the franchise and the significant strides the young team took, particularly in the second half of the season.
“It’s a good little taste of what’s possible for this organization and for this franchise,” Clark said after the Fever’s playoff exit. “There’s a lot for us to hold our heads high about. This team won five games two years ago. We’re a young group, a pretty inexperienced group, but we came together and had a lot of fun playing with one another.”
Clark’s remarks reflected the growth and development the Fever experienced, especially considering their rough start to the season. The team’s inexperience was evident early on as they struggled to a 1–8 record out of the gate. However, after the All-Star break and Olympic pause, the Fever found their rhythm and started playing some of their best basketball.
Clark, who had a tremendous rookie year, grew more comfortable with the heightened competition of the WNBA, emerging as a key figure in the team’s resurgence.

Reflecting on the team’s turnaround, Clark remained optimistic, despite the bitter end. “That’s sometimes the worst part of it—you feel like you’re really playing your best basketball, and then it has to end,” she admitted. “But like I said, I’m proud of this group. We stayed resilient all year and had a lot of fun together.”
Clark’s rookie campaign was filled with highlights as she quickly became one of the WNBA’s most dynamic players. She averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game, consistently drawing attention and raising the expectations for the Fever. Her playmaking abilities, coupled with her leadership on and off the court, helped elevate Indiana from a struggling franchise into a competitive team that fought hard down the stretch.
While the Fever’s playoff exit was undoubtedly disappointing, Clark made it clear that this season was just the beginning of something special for Indiana. “There’s plenty to build on,” she said. “We’ve shown what we’re capable of, and if we keep pushing and growing together, the future is really bright.”
As the Fever look ahead, the foundation they’ve laid this season provides hope for continued success. With Caitlin Clark at the helm and a talented young roster developing around her, Indiana appears poised to become a force in the WNBA in the coming years.
