The Iowa-South Carolina NCAA Women’s National Basketball Championship broke records in terms of television ratings.
The National Championship game followed suit of the Final Four match-up between Iowa and UConn by achieving record-breaking amounts of viewers.
“BREAKING: The Iowa-South Carolina national championship game averaged 18.7 million viewers. That makes it the most watched basketball game — men’s or women’s, college or professional — in five years. What a MASSIVE month for women’s basketball.”
Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark reacted to the astounding average number of 18.7 million viewers by posting on X, “18.7 million” with a “flames” emoji.

Unfortunately for Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, they fell to South Carolina 87-75 but she did receive plenty of praise from South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley postgame.
“I want to personally thank Caitlin Clark for lifting up our sport. She carried a heavy load for our sport… She’s gonna lift that league [WNBA] up… You are one of the GOATs of our game and we appreciate you.”
Clark, who is the NCAA basketball’s all-time leading point scorer, will now head to the WNBA where she is very likely to be the first overall pick in the upcoming WNBA draft.
