Caitlin Clark, projected to be the top pick by the Indiana Fever in the upcoming WNBA draft, made a memorable appearance on “Saturday Night Live” where she playfully confronted “Weekend Update” co-host Michael Che.
The University of Iowa star responded to Che’s joke about retiring her No. 22 jersey for an apron, showcasing her wit and readiness to stand up for women’s basketball.
The segment heated up when Che claimed to be a fan, to which Clark retorted, “Really, Michael? Because I heard that little apron joke you did.” She then cleverly countered Che’s history of making light of women’s sports with a series of sharp comebacks, highlighted by a supercut of his past remarks introduced by co-host Colin Jost. This was a nod to the recent NCAA women’s tournament finals, which attracted more viewers than their male counterparts.
Clark didn’t stop there. She delivered a biting one-liner from a fictional Netflix review: “Critics say it’s the hardest thing to watch on Netflix since Michael Che’s special ‘Shame the Devil.’” She followed up with, “I like that one. There’s more.”
Che complimented Clark on breaking the record for most three-pointers in a single season, to which she replied with humorously pointed advice: “One, be; two, funnier; three, dumba–.”
Amid the laughter, Clark took a moment to honor the legacy of WNBA pioneers such as Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Cynthia Cooper, Dawn Staley, and her personal hero, Maya Moore. She acknowledged these legends for paving the way for future generations.

Ending on a humorous note, Clark gifted Che an apron signed by herself, playing along with his earlier jest. When Che quipped he’d give it to his girlfriend, Clark swiftly responded, “You don’t have a girlfriend, Michael.”
Through this exchange, Clark not only showcased her comedic chops but also highlighted her ability to shine beyond the basketball court.
