On Thursday night, the Indiana Fever’s season record dropped to 7-12 following an 89-77 loss to the Seattle Storm.
After the game, star guard Caitlin Clark made a startling revelation that raised eyebrows among fans and analysts alike. When asked about the best piece of advice she’s received during a game this season, the No. 1 overall pick responded bluntly that she hasn’t received any.
“Nobody gives me advice in game. I wish,” Clark said, her frustration palpable.
Fans quickly reacted to Clark’s comments, directing their criticism at head coach Christie Sides. The lack of in-game guidance was described by some as “coaching malpractice.”
“Coaching malpractice. I’d be in trouble if any of my students/players got to the point where they confessed this,” one fan tweeted.
Another added, “SMH really how does Sides still have a job?”
During the press conference, Clark also discussed her performance and strategy, admitting she wanted to be more aggressive but found herself reacting to the Storm’s defense.
“We played out of a lot of ball screens tonight,” Clark explained. “So when you’re getting doubled on a ball screen, you’re always going to give it up. It should create an advantage for us, 4-on-3 attacking the basket. But I didn’t think we played too well out of our ball screens tonight.”
She continued, “I could definitely be a little more aggressive to the basket. But I think I’m just going to try to take what the defense gives me and try to set my teammates up for success, too.”

Clark’s candid admissions have sparked a broader conversation about the Fever’s coaching situation and whether a change is needed. Her remarks highlight a potential issue with player support and development under Coach Sides, prompting many to question if the Fever should consider a new direction.
The team’s struggles to capitalize on offensive opportunities, coupled with the star player’s sense of isolation, suggest deeper issues within the coaching strategy.
As the season progresses, the Fever’s management may need to address these concerns to ensure they can maximize the potential of their young talent and improve overall team performance.
Should the Fever decide to move on from Christie Sides, it would mark a significant shift aimed at fostering a more supportive and dynamic environment for players like Caitlin Clark.
The team’s next steps will be crucial in determining their trajectory for the remainder of the season and beyond.
