Luke Combs was already having a spectacular weekend in Houston, performing to sold-out crowds on back-to-back nights at NRG Stadium.
However, Saturday night took an even more exciting turn when the country music star invited Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and several of his teammates on stage, turning the concert into a true celebration of local pride.
Stroud, sporting a cowboy hat that fit right in with the Texas vibe, waved to the roaring crowd alongside his fellow Texans players. But the moment that truly stole the show came when Texans CEO and chairman Cal McNair decided to take the stage antics up a notch. Dressed in a cowboy hat, button-up shirt, and jeans, McNair joined Combs in shotgunning a beer, much to the delight of the audience. The timing couldn’t have been better as Combs launched into his 2020 hit “1, 2 Many,” with its fitting chorus, “There’s no stopping me once I get to goin’, put a can in my hand, man, I’m wide-ass open.”
The scene was shared widely on social media, with fans buzzing about the unexpected yet fitting moment. “C.J. Stroud and the boys joined Luke Combs tonight and Texans owner Cal McNair shotgunned a beer on stage! Man, is it a fun time to be a Texans fan!” tweeted one fan, capturing the energy of the night.

Stroud, who seemed to be enjoying every minute, stayed for the entire concert. He even shared a clip on his Instagram story of Combs performing a cover of Tracy Chapman’s classic “Fast Car,” captioning the video with “One of my favorite songs!” and adding three fire emojis to show his enthusiasm.
Combs, who clearly knows how to connect with his audience, further won over the Houston crowd by donning a Texans ballcap during both of his performances. He also paid homage to the city with his 2018 song “Houston, We Got a Problem,” which begins with the lines, “This is my kind of town, this is my kind of place; I wouldn’t mind hanging ’round for more than just a couple days; I got a 12th floor room with a killer view of the empty Astrodome; A tab at the bar downstairs, but all I can think about is home.”
As the final notes of the concert faded and the beer cans were cleared away, NRG Stadium began its quick transformation back into a football field, ready to host the Texans’ first home game of the preseason against the New York Giants on August 17.
The weekend’s festivities, blending music and sports, left fans buzzing with excitement and optimism for the upcoming NFL season. It’s clear that for Texans fans, this was more than just a concert—it was a celebration of everything they love about their city and their team.
