The Buffalo Bills made it clear they were ready to move on from the Stefon Diggs era, solidifying their stance just weeks after trading him away.
On Friday, the Bills announced the signing of Chase Claypool, former wide receiver for the Bears, to a one-year contract. This move marked one of two significant changes at the wideout position following Diggs’ departure to the Houston Texans.
In a move that appeared to underscore their departure from Diggs’ legacy, the Bills promptly reassigned his number 14 jersey to Chase Claypool immediately after his signing.
Additionally, the Bills addressed their wide receiver needs during the 2024 NFL draft by selecting Florida State’s Keon Coleman with the No. 33 overall pick in the second round.

Diggs’ tenure in Buffalo concluded without a Super Bowl appearance for the team, with the Bills receiving a 2025 second-round pick (via Minnesota) in exchange for him.
Earlier this year, Diggs stirred speculation about his future with a cryptic social media post, hinting at potential changes ahead. His comments at the Pro Bowl in February further fueled uncertainty, as he expressed ambiguity about his future with the Bills.
Tensions between Diggs and quarterback Josh Allen appeared to escalate last season, with Diggs’ receiving yardage declining and fewer standout performances after the first few games of the year. Despite this, Diggs concluded the season with impressive stats, tallying 107 receptions for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.
Meanwhile, in a surprising turn, Diggs’ stint with the Houston Texans may be short-lived. As part of the blockbuster trade, the Texans restructured Diggs’ contract, allowing him to become a free agent after the upcoming season.
While he received a substantial raise and guarantees for the 2024 season, Diggs could potentially secure a lucrative deal elsewhere after the season concludes.
