Bud light, really?!?
Beer will finally be available for sale at Kroger Field during Kentucky football games starting in 2023, according to reports.
Kentucky is one of the last few SEC schools to sell alcohol at games, with Auburn and Georgia still holding out. The decision comes after the school tested alcohol sales at baseball games during the NCAA Regional in Lexington and saw no issues with fan intoxication.
While the extra revenue is welcome news for the athletics department, some fans have expressed disappointment over the expected selection, which based on what was sold during baseball season, will include Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and seltzers.
Some comments below:
- That’s not much of a selection. You would think it’s out of an outdoor concert beer stand.
- Talk about watered-down, blah beer; at least get some Modelo or Olympia.
- Good news. Would like to see local product offered which is essentially Kentucky Proud like West Sixth and Country Boy. Wondering if it will be a contract with In Bev? If so, a craft partner would be nice as well.
- Bud light, seriously? Not a good look at this point in time lol
Others have called for craft beer options, but the school has not made a final decision on the selection.
Despite some criticisms, many fans see this as a positive step forward, and it comes on the heels of Michigan lifting its alcohol ban for Big Ten sporting events. Although at this point we all know about the current backlash facing Bud Light. In fact, Bud Light just got bounced from the top beer sold in America.
We’ll see if any get sold at Kentucky games this coming season.
