Will Baker Mayfield be on the move once again?
On Tuesday morning, Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles made it unequivocally clear that one of the team’s foremost objectives this offseason is to retain quarterback Baker Mayfield for the 2024 season.
Mayfield, set to become an unrestricted free agent, played a pivotal role in guiding the Bucs to the NFC South title with a 9–8 record under a one-year contract.
“It’s an extremely high priority, obviously,” Bowles conveyed to NFL Network’s Peter Schrager at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. “We have a couple of days before the league year begins. But we cherish Baker. Baker had an exceptional year. He seamlessly integrated with us in every aspect. The chemistry between him and all the receivers, as well as the offense as a whole, was outstanding. So, we aim to build upon that. I understand the business aspect of it. We are fond of Baker, and we hope to see things resolved.”

Having signed a one-year deal with the Bucs last offseason, Mayfield exceeded expectations with his performance, stunning the NFL world. He amassed 4,044 passing yards and delivered 28 touchdown passes against 10 interceptions in his inaugural season with the team, leading them to their fourth consecutive playoff appearance.
Tampa Bay secured a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round before succumbing to the Detroit Lions in the divisional round. Bowles appears convinced of Mayfield’s value and is eager to retain the 28-year-old quarterback.
NFL free agents officially gain the liberty to sign with new teams starting March 13th at 4 p.m. ET.
