Bryson DeChambeau recently had the chance to tee off with former President Donald Trump, and the LIV Tour pro came away genuinely impressed by Trump’s golf skills. The two played a round together in July as part of DeChambeau’s popular “Break 50” web series. The episode drew an impressive 11,785,000 viewers and raised a quarter of a million dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project, all while DeChambeau and Trump shot a remarkable 22-under over 18 holes in a scramble format.
While the massive viewer numbers and charitable contributions were certainly noteworthy, what really caught DeChambeau’s attention was Trump’s performance on the course—particularly his iron play.
“Man, his iron play was great,” DeChambeau told Golf.com. “I can’t tell you the number of times he stuffed it on the green within 30 feet of regulation. His driver swing is the most repeatable thing I have ever seen. I wish mine was that repeatable. Really, I do.”
Trump’s consistency with his irons and his ability to repeatedly place the ball close to the pin left a lasting impression on DeChambeau, who knows a thing or two about precision on the golf course.

However, not everyone was thrilled with DeChambeau’s decision to play with Trump, and he faced some criticism in certain circles. Reflecting on the backlash, DeChambeau expressed disappointment that politics had overshadowed what he intended to be a fun and charitable event. “It’s sad some people feel that way,” he said, acknowledging the divisive nature of political figures in general.
This wasn’t DeChambeau’s first time navigating the intersection of golf and politics. He has previously used a Trump-branded golf bag, participated in pro-am tournaments alongside Trump, and even gifted the former president a set of golf clubs. Additionally, during the 2020 election, DeChambeau humorously suggested mediating a golf match between Trump and then-candidate Joe Biden after the two clashed over the topic during a debate.
At a LIV tournament in England in July, DeChambeau spoke about the experience, explaining that the focus of the event was on creating engaging content and supporting charity, rather than making a political statement. “Politicians are divisive figures for sure,” DeChambeau said. “I respect and understand that. I think showing the content side of it, creating content, was the most important thing that we were trying to accomplish there and raising a lot of money for charity. Those two things combined, that’s where we were focused on. Trying to take the politics all out of it and just going, ‘Let’s create some amazing fun content for people to see some cool, fun, entertaining shots.’”
Looking ahead, DeChambeau has hinted at future high-profile guests for his “Break 50” series. One name on his wish list is former President Bill Clinton, another avid golfer. “We have formally reached out to his people and are awaiting a response,” DeChambeau revealed to Golf.com. “That would be great.”
Whether a round with Clinton could draw the same massive viewership as Trump’s episode remains to be seen—especially since DeChambeau’s follow-up round with golf legend John Daly garnered a respectable but smaller 4.7 million views. Regardless of the numbers, DeChambeau seems eager to keep blending the worlds of golf, entertainment, and philanthropy, always ready to take on new challenges and bring unique content to his growing audience.
