The Browns have made a decision to sign Jameis Winston over Joe Flacco.
The 30-year-old quarterback has agreed to a one-year, $8.7 million deal with the Browns and will serve as a backup to Deshaun Watson. Winston was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2015 draft and is nine years younger than Flacco.
Despite Flacco’s popularity among Browns fans, the team opted for Winston, who has had an up-and-down career and spent the last two years as a backup with the Saints. He didn’t start a game in 2023, throwing only 47 passes behind starter Derek Carr.
The move was rumored to be Watson’s choice, as he allegedly didn’t want Flacco behind him.

Some fans weighed in on the rumor that Watson seemingly did not want Flacco on the team:
Winston, who completed 61.2 percent for 22,104 yards, 141 touchdowns, 99 interceptions, a 3.4 interception percentage and an 87.0 passer rating in his career, said he still envisions himself as a starter but is ready to fulfill God’s purpose first.
