The decision may be simpler than it seems, and Zach Johnson could have already identified the perfect players to round out his U.S. Ryder Cup team.
While the rest of us may be overthinking the situation, it’s clear that Johnson’s at-large picks, which will be announced on Tuesday from PGA of America headquarters in Frisco, Texas, are not straightforward.
The reality is that there are more players vying for spots than available positions, and Johnson doesn’t have an abundance of standout performers who cannot be overlooked. This is the perspective from an external standpoint. But one position may already be filled.
According to Jena Sims, the wife of Brooks Koepka, Brooks may just be locked in.
On Tuesday, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka are anticipated to be chosen as Ryder Cup wild cards, even though Thomas is currently in exceptional form and Koepka is considered a LIV Golf renegade.
Best of luck to the US team.
