Rory McIlroy’s more lenient stance on LIV Golf has caught the attention of individuals associated with the rebel league. Jena Sims, the wife of LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka, responded to McIlroy’s recent comments expressing a change in perspective towards the league.
On her Instagram Stories, Sims posted a message saying, “New Year, New Rory,” alongside an X post highlighting McIlroy’s remarks. Previously known for his criticism of LIV Golf, McIlroy altered his stance this week, acknowledging that he may have been judgmental of those who joined the Saudi-backed league initially.
In an interview on the “Stick to Football” podcast, McIlroy stated, “I think at this point, I was maybe a little judgmental of the guys that went [to LIV Golf] at the start, and I think it was a bit of a mistake on my part because I now realize not everyone is in my position or in Tiger’s [Woods] position.”

Since LIV Golf’s inaugural season in 2022, significant developments have occurred. In June, the PGA Tour announced its merger with LIV Golf, resolving conflicts within the sport. Negotiations with the Public Investment Fund of Saudia Arabia were set to continue in 2024, beyond the initial deadline of December 31, 2023.
As LIV Golf prepares to kick off the 2024 season in February, Jon Rahm, the reigning Masters champion, will join Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, and Bryson DeChambeau, who made the move to the rebel league in 2022.
Koepka and Sims welcomed the new year in Mexico, celebrating a friend’s wedding. The couple, who became first-time parents with the birth of their son Crew in July 2023, enjoyed a memorable year. Sims was also named a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Rookie and became a finalist in the annual SwimSearch.
