The NFL is a physically demanding sport, and unfortunate injuries are an inherent part of the game.
Houston Texans’ emerging rookie wide receiver, Tank Dell, has suffered a significant setback, being ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a fractured left fibula. The injury occurred during a play where Dameon Pierce scored a touchdown for Houston at the goal line, and Dell, caught in the pile, had his leg trapped under the body of Broncos’ tackle DJ Jones.

Weighing in at 305 pounds, Jones unintentionally came down on top of Dell’s foot in the midst of the scrum. While the incident initially appeared accidental, a new slow-motion video raises questions about whether the defensive lineman purposefully caused injury to Dell.
Tank Dell, a third-round pick from the University of Houston, had made a significant impact in his rookie season, entering the game as the third rookie in NFL history with at least five catches and a touchdown reception in four consecutive games. Heading into Sunday’s match, Dell had recorded over 100 yards receiving in two of his past three home games, including a career-best 149-yard performance two weeks ago.
Dell’s seven touchdown receptions tie him for first among NFL rookies, setting a franchise rookie record. With 47 catches for 709 yards, he ranks second on the team. Despite the Texans improving their record to 7-5, the absence of Dell’s presence and his ability to stretch the field will undoubtedly be felt.
If the slow-motion video indicates intentional harm, there is a call for accountability, with potential fines or suspensions for those involved. In a sport where safety is paramount, intentional harm is a matter that should be addressed swiftly and decisively.
