The Las Vegas Raiders made a surprising move in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Georgia Bulldogs tight end Brock Bowers with their 13th overall pick, even though tight end wasn’t a pressing need for the team.
Recognized as the best tight end in the draft, Bowers chose to watch the draft from his home in Fairfield, California, rather than attending the event in Detroit.
The ESPN broadcast went live to Bowers’ home right after the announcement, capturing the reactions of his family. While Bowers’ mother was seen smiling, the camera also caught his father looking less than amused, a moment that did not go unnoticed on social media.

Despite few predicting Bowers’ association with the Raiders, his familiarity with the franchise runs deep. Growing up in Napa, California, where the Raiders hosted their training camp until 2020, Bowers had even attended one of the camps and received an autograph from former quarterback Derek Carr, an experience he later described as “pretty sweet.”
Bowers has proven his prowess on the field and his accolades speak volumes. He is a two-time John Mackey Award winner, marking a historic achievement as he became the first player to win the prestigious award for the nation’s best college tight end twice during his college career.
His statistics are impressive. Despite missing three games last season, Bowers racked up 56 receptions for 714 yards and six touchdowns. The previous year, he played fifteen games, snagging 63 receptions for 942 yards and seven touchdowns. The Raiders are undoubtedly gaining a dynamic player who can potentially transform their offense.
