Brittany and Patrick Mahomes recently experienced a setback with their family pets.
Just a day after Brittany, a Sports Illustrated model, excitedly shared on Instagram that their pet duck was expecting nine ducklings, she discovered that a raccoon had destroyed some of the eggs. Devastated, she revealed on her Instagram Stories on June 5, “It was a raccoon at 4:30 am this morning. I’m so sad.”
Initially, Brittany had announced the happy news on June 4 with a photo of the eggs, expressing her anticipation for the new additions. However, the joy was short-lived as she later updated her followers about the loss: “One of the eggs was broken,” she shared, “I think she literally took it away… and then there were 8.”
The Mahomes’ family includes more than just their duck; they also have two dogs, Steel and Silver, and two young children, three-year-old Sterling Skye and 17-month-old Patrick “Bronze” Lavon III.
Brittany has spoken about how caring for their pets has helped prepare her for motherhood. In a May interview with E! News, she reflected on the impact of having pets, saying, “It helped a lot. I got Steel when I was in college, so just having that responsibility of having to take care of something at all times, I think, helped with my kids and made me the caregiver that I am and made it a little bit easier to transition.”
While acknowledging the differences between caring for pets and children, she noted, “Dogs are a lot easier than kids, but I think it definitely prepped me in the responsibility and always having to take care of someone type of way.”
Brittany and Patrick also see the value of having animals in their home for their children, teaching them responsibility and how to be gentle, nice, and kind.
