For someone who isn’t directly involved in the NFL as a player, Brittany Mahomes certainly attracts a lot of attention—and not all of it positive. Over the years, she has become a polarizing figure among NFL fans, sparking controversy with her actions and social media presence.
The turning point for many fans came when Brittany, then not yet married to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, sprayed champagne on fans during a celebration. That moment marked the beginning of a series of public incidents that have kept her in the spotlight, often to the ire of NFL followers.
In fact, a study conducted in March 2022 highlighted just how polarizing she has become. Brittany Mahomes and Patrick’s brother, Jackson Mahomes, were both listed among the 20 most disliked figures in the NFL. Notably, they were the only individuals on that list who weren’t players, coaches, or owners, underscoring the unique level of attention and criticism they receive.
Brittany’s latest controversy involved her publicly liking several social media posts made by Donald Trump, a move that sparked backlash, particularly from NFL fans and the passionate fanbase of Taylor Swift, known as “Swifties.” However, if anyone thought the criticism might faze her, Brittany made it clear that she’s no longer concerned with what people think.

In a recent episode of the WHOOP podcast, Brittany opened up about the negativity she faces, stating, “I honestly don’t give a f— what people have to say about me anymore.” She went on to explain that the intense scrutiny she and Patrick have faced has only made them stronger. “We got thrown into the fire, and I think that’s what’s helped us do so well in the life that we have. We did it all together.”
Brittany acknowledged that her husband handles the criticism better than she does, attributing his resilience to growing up around professional sports, thanks to his father’s career. “He’s good at managing that and blocking people out,” she said. “The main thing he always told me is to stop caring what people think, especially the people who don’t know you.”
Brittany admitted that social media used to affect her deeply, but with Patrick’s support, she’s learned to be more confident in herself and their life together. “I’m strong in who I am and I’m confident in who I am. I’m confident in mine and his relationship and I’m confident in our life. So why does what other people have to say have to matter at all?”
Interestingly, during the podcast, WHOOP Founder and CEO Will Ahmed referred to Brittany as a “professional athlete,” a label that raised some eyebrows. While Brittany did play soccer in college and briefly in Iceland, the description seemed to stretch the reality of her athletic career. When asked what it was like to be a “professional athlete” while Patrick was rising in the NFL, Brittany responded, “It was wild. I think that’s definitely not something that I expected and so I think just both of us, you know, off across the world, you know, perfecting our crafts and following our dreams was pretty cool. It was wild.”
For those who already found Brittany Mahomes to be a divisive figure, her remarks in the podcast might not change their minds.
However, her ability to remain unapologetically herself, despite the constant scrutiny, is undeniable. Whether you love her or hate her, Brittany Mahomes is clearly here to stay, and she’s no longer interested in what her critics have to say.
