Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre recently took a jab at a politician often suggested as a potential replacement for President Joe Biden.
Favre, known for his outspoken support of Donald Trump, the former U.S. president and 2024 Republican nominee, has not shied away from political commentary.
Before the 2020 election, Favre endorsed Trump on Twitter (now “X”). Following a recent presidential debate between Biden and Trump, many have called for the Democratic Party to consider a new candidate.
According to CNN, a growing number of House Democrats have expressed concerns about Biden’s viability for re-election.
Among those floated as potential replacements is California Governor Gavin Newsom. Favre, however, made it clear he is not a fan of Newsom, posting a tweet with some choice words that left no doubt about his disdain.

Favre’s connection to Trump is well-documented. The two have golfed together on numerous occasions, with Favre even posing for a photo with Trump during a round in 2020. Later that year, Favre publicly endorsed Trump on Twitter.
Should Biden remain in the race, the 2024 election will be the first presidential rematch since 1956, when Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower decisively defeated Democratic nominee Adlai Stevenson II to retain the presidency.
Favre is one of several former professional athletes who have publicly supported Trump. In 2020, Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Orr and golfing legend Jack Nicklaus endorsed Trump shortly before the election.
Other sports figures like former NFL running back Herschel Walker, former NFL head coach and tight end Mike Ditka, star MLB pitcher Curt Schilling, and Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy have also voiced their support for Trump in the past.
As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, scheduled for November 5, it remains to be seen how the political landscape will evolve. The possibility of a rematch between Biden and Trump is a significant point of discussion, reminiscent of the historical 1956 election.
Favre’s outspoken stance adds to the ongoing discourse, highlighting the intersection of sports figures and political advocacy.
His comments on Gavin Newsom and his continued support for Trump underscore the broader conversation about leadership and political alignment in the United States.
While athletes like Favre, Orr, Nicklaus, and others continue to leverage their platforms to express political opinions, the impact of their endorsements and criticisms will undoubtedly contribute to the unfolding narrative leading up to the election.
The engagement of these sports legends in political matters reflects a growing trend of public figures influencing public opinion and the political process.
