San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk attributes his team’s dramatic 34-31 victory over the Detroit Lions in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game to a small, fortuitous encounter with a ladybug.
In a post-game interview with FOX NFL reporter Erin Andrews, Aiyuk shared that a ladybug landed on his shoe before the game, and he considers it a good luck charm.
The wide receiver, playing a pivotal role in the game, credited the ladybug for the positive turn of events.

Trailing 24-10 against the Lions in the third quarter, Aiyuk was the target of a deep pass from quarterback Brock Purdy. Despite an overthrow that could have resulted in an interception, the ball bounced off the defender’s hands and facemask, eventually landing in Aiyuk’s possession at the 4-yard line.
Although not a touchdown, the 51-yard completion set the stage for a subsequent touchdown, cutting Detroit’s lead to 24-17.
Aiyuk contributed three receptions for 68 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers’ victory, securing a spot in Super Bowl 54, where they will face Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch.
