Jake Paul made headlines on Thursday by announcing an upcoming bout against Mike Tyson. However, a post promoting the fight raised eyebrows among fans due to a significant discrepancy.
While Paul, 27, is set to face Tyson, who will be 58 by the time of their July 20 match, Paul appeared to acknowledge concerns about Tyson’s age affecting his credibility in the ring.
In an attempt to bolster Tyson’s image, Paul shared a post featuring a video of “Iron Mike” looking sharp during training.
“He’s the greatest heavyweight of all time…the most vicious KO artist ever. But I’m younger, I’m faster and I’m going to be working my a– off to get stronger. A member of my team sent me this video that Mike’s coach put up two weeks ago and asked me if I’m sure that I want to do this…yes, yes I do. Heavyweight,” Paul wrote.
However, it turns out there’s a glaring issue with Paul’s claim. The video he referenced as being from “two weeks ago” is actually from September 2020 when Tyson was preparing for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. slated for November 2020.
With Tyson set to turn 58 in July 2024 and having been spotted using a walking stick in a video from 2022, questions arise about whether it’s advisable for him to continue boxing at this age.
Additionally, concerns loom over the wisdom of stepping into the ring with someone 30 years his junior and whether Tyson should still be subjected to taking punches. These questions prompt reflection on the safety and appropriateness of Tyson’s continued involvement in the sport.
