Amazon is taking a cue from NBC by securing an exclusive streaming right for a 2025 playoff game on its platform, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
This follows the Chiefs-Dolphins AFC playoff game which was exclusively streamed on NBC’s Peacock, attracting criticism and a record-breaking 23 million viewers, marking it the most streamed U.S. event ever.
Additionally, the NFL is exploring further streaming avenues. Boomer Esiason has hinted that the Christmas Day game might be streamed on Netflix in the future. This suggestion comes as the NFL considers options for when Christmas falls on different weekdays.

The NFL has recently determined that playing on a Wednesday is feasible when Christmas occurs on that day, according to Hans Schroeder, NFL executive V.P. of media distribution, in a statement to The Wall Street Journal. Despite Tuesday being seen as less feasible, the successful implementation of a Wednesday game suggests that future Tuesday games are not out of the question.
The decision to avoid playing on December 24th evening might stem from previous audience sizes not warranting the logistical challenges. However, if past audiences had reached around 20 million, the NFL might have pursued it.
Looking ahead to 2029, when Christmas falls on a Tuesday again, streaming platforms like Netflix could potentially be involved.
