On Thursday night, the Denver Broncos may have secured their quarterback of the future by selecting Oregon’s Bo Nix with the 12th pick in the NFL Draft.
Instead of attending the draft in Detroit, Nix chose to watch from home, surrounded by family and his wife, Izzy.
The couple, who met at Auburn and married in the summer of 2022, celebrated the momentous occasion together. When NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced his name, Nix shared an embrace with Izzy before joining the rest of his family in celebration.
Later, Izzy posted a selfie on Instagram sporting a Broncos cap, sharing their joy with the world.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton expressed his enthusiasm for acquiring Nix, indicating he was precisely the player they were hoping to draft. “This is the night where everyone says, ‘We got our guy.’ I told (General Manager) George (Paton), ‘I think we’re in position right where we’re at. I could fly out there today and be the first one when we’re on the clock to knock on his door and make sure he knew that we were the one.’ But then I thought that might be a little difficult if something happened,” Payton said humorously, “I’d be in Birmingham, Alabama, and all of a sudden, we have to divert the plane somewhere, so we stayed put. But we’re glad it worked out the way it did.”
Throughout his career at Oregon, Nix threw for 8,101 yards and 74 touchdowns. It remains to be seen how well he will transition into Payton’s offensive scheme with the Broncos.
