Blake Shelton recently opened up about his admiration for how Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have navigated the public spotlight surrounding their high-profile romance. In an interview on The Pat McAfee Show, the 48-year-old country star praised the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, noting that Kelce’s “big personality” and self-confidence allow him to stand out, even next to a global superstar like Swift.
Shelton couldn’t help but see parallels between the couple’s approach to the public eye and how he and his wife, Gwen Stefani, handled their own relationship.
Shelton, who married Stefani in 2021 after years of dating, expressed his respect for Kelce, 34, and Swift, 34, for embracing the public nature of their relationship. “They’re just putting it out there for everyone to see, and I love that. It’s kind of what Gwen and I did — no sneaking around, no trying to hide it,” Shelton explained. He praised Kelce’s ability to hold his own in the face of Swift’s immense fame, something that can be challenging for many in the public eye.
“He’s a standout no matter where he is or what he’s doing,” Shelton said of Kelce. “He’s just got this big personality, and he’s a funny guy. When he walks into a room, you feel his presence. There’s never going to be a moment where he’s overshadowed by anyone, not even someone like Taylor, because his charisma is off the charts.”
Shelton went on to share how much he enjoys Kelce’s willingness to be himself, no matter the situation. Referencing photos of Kelce supporting Swift at one of her concerts, Shelton remarked, “He just kind of owns the moment, whatever it is. He’s willing to be there and enjoy it fully. I love his personality — and I’m a fan of both him and his brother.”

As for Swift and Kelce’s future, Shelton is optimistic that their relationship could go the distance. He sees their openness as a key factor in why they may last. “I really believe they could be together for a long time,” Shelton said. “The fact that they’re just putting it out there, owning it, and not trying to keep things secret — that’s something Gwen and I did as well. We embraced the public nature of our relationship, and it worked for us.”
Shelton reflected on his own relationship with Stefani, whom he met on The Voice in 2014. Their romance quickly became a fan favorite, and the couple leaned into the attention, often appearing together at events and on social media. Shelton credited their approach of being transparent and unapologetic about their relationship as a big part of why it thrived.
In July, Shelton and Stefani celebrated their third wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion, Shelton posted a sweet selfie with his wife on Instagram, captioning it, “Happy anniversary @gwenstefani! I love you!!!!!!!” Stefani shared her own tribute to Shelton, posting a series of romantic photos from their wedding day at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch, writing, “July 3, 2021 ?? it has always been you ?.”
For Shelton, seeing Swift and Kelce’s relationship unfold in the public eye brings back memories of his own experience with Stefani, and he’s rooting for the couple to continue being themselves. “When you’re willing to just come out and put your relationship in everybody’s face, that’s a sign you’re confident in it, and you’re not afraid of what anyone else thinks,” Shelton said. “That’s what Gwen and I did, and it’s worked out pretty well for us.”
