Bill Cowher, an esteemed figure in Pittsburgh Steelers history, expressed his disappointment with the current team, particularly wide receiver George Pickens, following their recent loss to the Colts. Pickens explained his decision not to block for running back Jaylen Warren, citing concerns about injury risk.
However, Cowher deemed this explanation insufficient, emphasizing the importance of commitment and sacrifice in team culture.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Cowher asserted that there should be consequences for Pickens’ lack of effort and comments. He highlighted the necessity of accountability, stating that players must be held responsible for their actions. Cowher emphasized that a player’s commitment and willingness to support teammates should never be questioned, expressing disbelief at the idea of a player not giving their all for the team.
“It is disappointing to see and hear what George Pickens talks about because culture really is about commitment and sacrifice,” Cowher said in an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
“You’re not just playing with one another; you’re playing for one another.”
“I think there’s got to be consequences for that,” Cowher said. “He’s going to be held accountable, because you have to have accountability.”
The situation was further complicated by Warren’s statement that he would have had no issue blocking for Pickens if roles were reversed, adding to the scrutiny on Pickens’ actions.
If Pickens doesn’t alter his attitude promptly, he might find himself seeking employment elsewhere.
