The former New England Patriots head coach emphasized that Maye, a product of North Carolina, needs significant improvement in this area.
“Drake Maye, his footwork needs a lot of work,” Belichick remarked.

Despite this criticism, Belichick still ranked Maye as his third-best quarterback prospect, trailing only Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. Belichick’s critique garnered attention, especially since there was widespread speculation that the Patriots might select Maye with the third overall pick — which they did.
Additionally, another analyst had cautioned teams about drafting Maye, highlighting the scrutiny surrounding his skills.
