While Bill Belichick is currently without an NFL head coaching position, speculation abounds about potential opportunities for the legendary coach.
Recent discussions on “Get Up” featuring Adam Schefter and former New York Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum delved into Belichick’s future prospects, with a notable prediction regarding a possible role in the Big Apple.
Tannenbaum suggested that Belichick could “cast a big shadow” in New York, not with his former team, the Jets, but with the New York Giants. The former Jets executive highlighted Belichick’s strong rapport with the Mara family and predicted that if Brian Daboll’s tenure with the Giants faces challenges in the 2024 season, Belichick’s name could become prominent in discussions about the team’s coaching situation.

“The biggest shadow [Belichick] is going to cast is in East Rutherford, New Jersey,” Tannenbaum remarked on the show. He emphasized Belichick’s positive relationship with the Mara family, signaling a potential connection with the Giants organization.
Daboll, who led the Giants to a 9-7-1 record and a wild card victory in his inaugural season in 2022, faced adversity in 2023 with a disappointing 6-11 record. Reports also surfaced about Daboll being perceived as “disruptive” and challenging to work with during the previous season.
Given the team’s struggles and the negative atmosphere surrounding the Giants, Daboll is likely to face increased scrutiny in the upcoming 2024 season. Tannenbaum suggested that if Daboll encounters early challenges and the Giants falter, the prospect of Belichick stepping into the coaching conversation could become more pronounced, with team owner John Mara possibly considering Belichick as a potential solution.
