Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have found themselves working side by side again, but this time not on the football field. Both have ventured into the world of sports media—Belichick with multiple broadcasting and guest appearance roles, while Brady made his much-anticipated debut as FOX’s lead NFL game analyst this past Sunday. Brady’s first appearance in the booth has sparked a wide range of reactions, from praise to criticism, as fans and media pundits alike weighed in on his transition to broadcasting.
On this week’s episode of the Let’s Go! podcast, hosted by Jim Gray and featuring Peter King and Maxx Crosby, Belichick shared his thoughts on Brady’s debut performance. The former New England Patriots coach, who led Brady to six Super Bowl titles, offered a positive assessment of his former quarterback’s new role in the booth.
“I thought Tom was great,” Belichick said when asked by Gray about Brady’s first game as an analyst. “I think he had a much better day when Dallas went to Cleveland than I had in my first game in Cleveland when Dallas came in.”
Belichick was referring to his own head coaching debut with the Cleveland Browns in 1991, a game in which the Browns were defeated 26-14 by the Dallas Cowboys. That season, Belichick’s Browns struggled to a 6-10 record. By drawing this comparison, Belichick suggested that Brady, despite being new to broadcasting, performed admirably in his debut.
In his analysis of Brady’s performance, Belichick pointed out that his former quarterback “brought up a lot of great points” during the broadcast, especially highlighting the Browns’ struggles on offense during their 33-17 loss to the Cowboys. Brady’s insight into the game was valuable, even if his delivery wasn’t flawless.
While some listeners noted that Brady’s voice lacked the traditional tone of seasoned broadcasters and that he occasionally sounded hesitant, he seemed composed and well-prepared. Belichick appeared to downplay any minor imperfections, indicating that Brady’s understanding of the game came through, even if he’s still finding his footing as a broadcaster.
Brady’s first game as an analyst was a big moment for the seven-time Super Bowl champion, and while it wasn’t universally acclaimed, many believe he’ll continue to improve with more experience in the booth. For his part, Belichick’s praise signals confidence that Brady will thrive in his new role, just as he did during his time on the field.
Brady’s next game as an analyst will be another Cowboys matchup, this time against the New Orleans Saints in Arlington.
The Saints come into the game after routing the Carolina Panthers 47-10 in Week 1, setting up what should be an intriguing contest. Fans will be eager to see how Brady handles his second broadcast as he continues to adjust to life after football, this time in the analyst’s chair.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on FOX, and all eyes will once again be on Brady as he looks to build on his first performance and further develop his broadcasting skills.
