Is Bill Belichick off the market?
Bill Belichick’s illustrious coaching career boasts six Super Bowl victories and a record 31 playoff wins, cementing his status as the most successful head coach in NFL history.
Despite his unparalleled achievements, none of the seven NFL teams with head-coaching vacancies this offseason—namely, the Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Commanders—expressed interest in hiring the 71-year-old Belichick.
If he remains unsigned for the 2024 season, it would mark the first time since 1974 that Belichick is not part of an NFL coaching staff.
During a recent visit to South Florida with his girlfriend to meet with Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson, Belichick discussed the challenges he faced in securing a coaching position this past cycle. According to Johnson, some team owners, general managers, and personnel staff were apprehensive about Belichick’s reputation and feared potential job displacement if he were hired.
Despite the setbacks, Johnson believes Belichick will receive opportunities next year.

“Bill and his girlfriend just left the house about four days ago, and he came down to spend a few days with me,” Johnson said to Joe Rose on WQAM 560 AM in Miami. “We talked about a bunch of stuff. He had been with [Bill] Parcells and [Nick] Saban a couple days earlier, and some of these [NFL] owners are a little bit afraid of him. The general mangers and the personnel people in the organizations are really afraid of him because they think if he comes in they are going to lose their jobs. A lot of people working against him as far as getting a job. I was shocked that he didn’t get some more opportunities. He’ll get opportunities next year.”
It was revealed early this past season that Bill and his longtime girlfriend Linda Holliday had split. It was not too long after that the former Patriots coach was spotted with a much younger girlfriend.
We’ll need to stay updated on Bill and his new girlfriend, as well as which team he joins next season.
With 27 regular-season wins needed to surpass Don Shula’s record of 328 victories, Belichick’s pursuit of coaching greatness may extend into the 2025 season and beyond, should he secure a coaching opportunity.
