Big Ben Roethlisberger is a big dick?
On his podcast “Footbahlin,” former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made a candid admission about his early feelings towards his successor, Kenny Pickett, last season. Roethlisberger confessed that he had initially hoped for the rookie to fail, but as Pickett began to play, he found himself rooting for him more and more.
“I’ll be completely honest, I’ll be super transparent here. I’m gonna get blasted, probably shouldn’t say this, but who cares at this point? I wouldn’t say I wanted Kenny to necessarily fail, but when someone comes to replace you and I still feel like I had it, I hope he doesn’t come ball out, because then it’s like Ben who, right?” Roethlisberger said. “But as you started playing, I found myself rooting more and more for you.
Roethlisberger acknowledged that his selfishness was to blame for his initial stance and expressed regret for it.
“Early on, I didn’t want him to succeed, because he followed me up. I didn’t want it to happen. I think that’s probably the selfishness of me, and I feel bad for it.”
However, Roethlisberger’s admission is not surprising as he had previously demonstrated bitterness about how his Steelers career ended and had been distant toward Mason Rudolph after his 2018 draft selection by the team.
In the end, Roethlisberger seemed to warm up to Pickett, but he didn’t have much of a choice in the matter.
