During Sunday Night Football between the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans, there was a brief but concerning pause in the action due to an incident on the sideline involving a member of the chain crew. The stoppage occurred following a scary moment when the chain gang member fell and required medical attention.
The incident happened after a run by Texans running back Joe Mixon. As the play unfolded near the sideline, the chain gang member appeared to trip over the 20-yard marker while stepping backward, trying to avoid the approaching players. Fortunately, no player made contact with him, but he fell awkwardly, hitting his head on the ground as he lost his balance.
Spectators and players alike looked on with concern as the man remained on the ground for several moments. Medical staff quickly responded, assessing the situation as he lay motionless for a brief period.
Thankfully, after being tended to, the chain gang member was able to get to his feet with assistance and walked toward a nearby cart. The cart then transported him off the field for further evaluation.

Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico, who were calling the game, briefly addressed the situation on the broadcast, expressing relief that the individual seemed to be okay. Shortly after, the game resumed, and both teams continued play without further interruption.
This wasn’t the only incident involving a chain crew member that day. In an earlier matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders, another member of the chain gang collapsed and also required medical assistance.
The individual was reported to be alert and responsive after receiving treatment and was transported to a nearby hospital for additional care.
Despite the tense moments, both chain crew members appeared to be in stable condition, and the games were able to continue as scheduled. These incidents highlighted the often-overlooked physical risks that even sideline personnel face during fast-paced NFL action.
