It hasn’t been Matt Eberflus’s day, month, or even season as head coach of the Chicago Bears. Following yet another tough loss, Eberflus is under fire once again—this time for his late-game decision-making that may have cost the Bears a win against their longtime rival, the Green Bay Packers.
In Sunday’s narrow 20-19 defeat, Eberflus faced harsh criticism after electing to settle for a 46-yard field goal attempt rather than trying to pick up additional yards to make kicker Cairo Santos’s job a bit easier. The decision ultimately backfired when the field goal was blocked, sealing the Bears’ fate and extending their losing streak against the Packers.
Fans were quick to voice their frustration, but one Bears radio caller stood out for his passionate rant on Chicago sports radio’s 670 The Score during the postgame show. The caller, Cullen from Northfield, Illinois, didn’t hold back in his scathing critique of Eberflus’s handling of the game.
“It was arrogance from a loser coach who has no business in that position,” Cullen said with palpable frustration. “He should’ve been out of here. Finding a way to not use the time to get a little closer for this team against the Packers—I don’t even care if he had lost both games against the Packers, but the way we’re losing, it shows me that there’s arrogance in this moron.”
Cullen didn’t stop there, continuing his tirade with an indictment of Eberflus’s coaching abilities. “And that combination is awful, it’s inexcusable, and we gotta move on from this guy. He’s not the answer, I’d love to see them break tradition and get rid of him now. It’s not gonna happen, but it makes me sick to my stomach, to my core, and it drives me nuts.”
The frustration expressed by Cullen was shared by many Bears fans, who have watched their team repeatedly fall short in key moments under Eberflus’s leadership.
This loss to the Packers was particularly painful, as the Bears appeared poised to end their 11-game losing streak against their divisional rivals, only to see their hopes dashed by a blocked field goal in the final seconds.

This isn’t the first time Matt Eberflus has found himself at the center of criticism this season, and it certainly won’t be the last. The Bears have struggled to close out tight games throughout Eberflus’s tenure, posting an abysmal 5-17 record in one-score games since he took over as head coach in 2022—the worst mark in the league.
The inability to find success in close contests has become a defining feature of his time in Chicago, leading to increasing pressure from fans and media alike for a change in leadership.
The timing of the loss couldn’t have been worse, as the Bears were fresh off the firing of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
Despite the shake-up, the Bears had come tantalizingly close to finally defeating the Packers for the first time since 2018, only to fall short yet again. The defeat left many fans questioning whether Eberflus is capable of leading the team out of its current rut or if a new direction is needed to revitalize the once-proud franchise.
Up next for the Bears is another crucial divisional matchup, this time against the Minnesota Vikings at home. With Eberflus’s future under increasing scrutiny, a win against the Vikings could help ease some of the mounting tension.
However, another loss—especially one marked by questionable decision-making—could further erode confidence in his ability to lead the team moving forward.
For now, Bears fans are left grappling with the disappointment of yet another missed opportunity. The frustration that Cullen expressed on the radio is emblematic of a fanbase that has grown tired of seeing its team come up short in the moments that matter most.
As the season continues, Eberflus and the Bears will need to find a way to turn things around, or face the reality that a change may be inevitable.
