It’s abundantly clear: Caleb Williams is the leading contender to be the Chicago Bears’ starting quarterback in Week 1 of the upcoming season.
Both Bears head coach Matt Eberflus and general manager Ryan Poles were observed at USC’s Pro Day, closely watching Williams’ performance. They weren’t alone in representing the Bears organization, as newly-acquired wide receiver Keenan Allen also made an appearance to witness Williams in action. Allen, who was recently traded to the Bears from the Los Angeles Chargers for a fourth-round pick, seemed to be getting an early glimpse of his potential future quarterback.
A photo circulating on social media captured Allen embracing Williams at USC’s Pro Day, further fueling speculation about the Bears’ interest in Williams.

While Allen expressed a desire to finish his career with the Chargers, he conveyed enthusiasm about his new opportunity with the Bears. “I’m definitely excited about the new opportunity,” Allen remarked. “Being with a new organization, this organization has a lot of tradition. Obviously wanted to finish my career [with the Chargers], but things happen and you’ve got to keep on going.”
Despite entering the later stages of his career, Allen remains a formidable force on the field, as evidenced by his impressive performance in the 2023 season, during which he tallied 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns. His arrival adds a potent weapon to the Bears’ offensive arsenal.
