Early Tuesday morning, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed, causing multiple cars to plunge into the Patapsco River. The collapse occurred following a collision between a container ship and a support column of the bridge.
Baltimore promptly initiated a search-and-rescue operation to locate individuals who were submerged in the river.
Updates on the situation are still pending.
In response to this devastating event, the Baltimore Ravens released a statement expressing their condolences. “Our hearts go out to those affected by the tragic collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge this morning,” the Ravens conveyed. “We extend our gratitude to the first responders and local authorities leading the search and rescue efforts and offering support to the families most directly impacted. We are confident that the Baltimore community will unite in the aftermath of this distressing incident.”
United States Senator Ben Cardin clarified that the ship did not intentionally collide with the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Instead, it reportedly lost steering capability due to a power outage. “What has been indicated is that the vessel lost power, resulting in a loss of steering,” Cardin explained. “However, a thorough investigation is underway.”
Our thoughts remain with those affected by this tragedy.
