Music superstar Bad Bunny is facing controversy involving his sports agency, Rimas Sports, which has been accused by the MLBPA of using questionable tactics to recruit new clients.
In April, the MLBPA revoked the certification of Rimas Sports agent William Arroyo.
Rimas Sports, co-founded by Bad Bunny, has since filed a lawsuit against the MLBPA in a federal court in Puerto Rico, alleging discriminatory practices by the association.
The MLBPA has countered by detailing allegations of improper conduct by Rimas Sports. According to Evan Drellich of The Athletic, the players’ association claimed in a federal court that Rimas Sports offered a $200,000 interest-free loan to attract an unspecified player and gave a $19,500 gift to another player who signed with them. These incidents were outlined in a memo filed by the MLBPA, revealing details of the ongoing dispute between the union and the agency.

Additionally, the MLBPA has accused Rimas Sports of offering “improper inducements to dozens of players, providing and promising loans to players not represented by Rimas,” and having unlicensed individuals perform agent duties.
Despite an appeal by Bad Bunny’s agency, arbitrator Michael Gottesman ruled in favor of the MLBPA, leading the agency to take the matter to federal court.
Rimas Sports is known for representing prominent MLB players such as New York Mets’ catcher Francisco Alvarez and Giants’ first baseman Wilmer Flores. There were also reports in April that Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. was considering signing with the agency.
