Baby Gronk is on the move!
The phenomenon known as “Baby Gronk” took another turn in the spotlight this Friday, as the young viral sensation made headlines with his latest informal commitment to the University of Washington.
This recent pledge adds to a growing and somewhat bewildering list of commitments that includes notable programs such as Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Penn State, Clemson, and Texas A&M, among others.
Despite the extensive list, it’s important to clarify that Baby Gronk’s commitments are entirely unofficial. At just 11 years old, he is far from being eligible to make any official commitments or sign with a college team, and he has not received any actual collegiate football offers, as confirmed by On3’s recruiting database.
The string of commitment announcements appears to be a strategic move by his father, Jake San Miguel, aimed at bolstering Baby Gronk’s already substantial social media presence.
With over 500,000 followers across platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), these declarations seem designed more to maintain and increase his visibility and engagement rather than reflect genuine athletic recruiting processes.
The tactic of announcing commitments has not been without its critics.
Among them is NFL star Rob Gronkowski, after whom Baby Gronk is nicknamed. Last summer, as Baby Gronk’s social media fame escalated, Gronkowski expressed his discomfort with the situation, describing it as “awkward” and suggesting that it had gone “too far.”
Despite the controversy and the opinions of figures like Gronkowski, the saga of Baby Gronk’s commitments shows no signs of slowing down. His ongoing engagement in these playful announcements continues to capture the attention of the public and media alike, indicating that the commitment carousel is likely to continue spinning in the foreseeable future.
