With the increasing legalization of sports betting across various U.S. states, there’s a surge in the number of individuals placing bets on football games. Consequently, we may witness a historic amount being wagered on this Sunday’s Super Bowl.
According to the American Gaming Association (AGA), a staggering 67.8 million American adults are projected to participate in betting on Super Bowl LVIII, potentially reaching an unprecedented total wager of $23.1 billion.
In a recent press release, the AGA disclosed, “A record 67.8 million American adults (26%) are expected to bet on Super Bowl LVIII, a 35 percent increase from 2023, according to a new American Gaming Association (AGA) survey. Bettors plan to wager an estimated $23.1 billion on this year’s Big Game, up from $16 billion last year.”

This data signifies an overwhelming participation rate, encompassing over one-quarter of American adults, and marks a significant threefold increase in the amount of money bet compared to the previous year’s Super Bowl.
Regarding the preferences in wagering, the American Gaming Association reveals that bettors are nearly evenly divided between favoring the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. Reportedly, 47 percent are betting on the Chiefs, while 44 percent are favoring the 49ers.
